The Honorable Betty Jean Grant

Betty Jean Grant is a (former) City of Buffalo Common Council Member, who represented the city's University District. She was first elected in 1998 and was re-elected in 2000, when for the first time in the City of Buffalo's history, Black and African American Community Individuals represented a Common Council Majority. Mrs. Grant, or 'Ms. Grant", as she is fondly referred to, is also a (former) Buffalo Public School Board Member, where at she represented the Ferry District. She is also a (licensed) Elementary Special Education Teacher. Finally, Betty Jean Grant is a (former) County of Erie Legislator, who also served two (unanimously-elected) consecutive terms as Chairwoman of the Erie County Legislature.

She is a (life-long) Democrat, who also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Erie County Democratic Committee. A businesswoman, and also mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Grant is co-owner of Grant's Variety Shoppe, a 42-year (in Summer, 2022) retail food establishment, located in the city's 'East Side' Neighborhood. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, at Medaille College, and a Master of Science Degree, from the University at Buffalo. Both degrees concern: Elementary, and Special Education.

Ms. Grant is a respected four-plus decade Community Activist, who remains active in numerous community organizations, including, The Black Leadership Forum, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Marcus Garvey Day Committee, the Kwanzaa Committee; the Community Action Organization Of Erie County, Community Voice Organization, the President's Club; and, and the Black Chamber of Commerce of Western New York. She is the Founder of (the former) AIDS Education, Information, and Support Services AEISS] Organization, as well as Founded and is a (Past) President of the Parkridge/Clarence Avenue Block Club. Mrs. Grant is also a Life Subscribing Member of the NAACP's Buffalo Chapter.

Married, for over 50 years, to Mr. George Grant, Betty Jean is the mother of Stacey Grant, Vicki Grant, and Sherry Sherrill. She is grandmother to five: Amanda Rojas, Monica Patton, Aaron Rojas, Quentin Littleton, Jr., and Grant Littleton. She is also a long-standing member of True Bethel Baptist Church, in the city, and is the Founder and President of We Are Women Warriors, a Family and Community Empowerment Organization launched due to local and international unrest, concerning the Year 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin, which tragedy unfolded in the U.S. State of Florida.
