Katherine Heard Logan
She was born in Memphis, TN. She later died on 6-17-2012.

Katherine H. Logan is the oldest of two daughters born to Marshall and Elizabeth Heard in Memphis, TN. She received a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis. She relocated to Rochester, NY where she met and married Jewell Andrew Logan, and has one daughter, Denise Patricia Logan. She received a Master of Science degree and certification in Educational Administration and Supervision from the State University of New York College at Brockport.
She began a distinguished 30 year career in the Rochester City School District in 1953. Among the many positions she held are elementary school teacher, resource teacher and supervisor for Project Beacon (a New York State funded project for specifically identified primary students), Assistant Director of the City School District's Summer Inservice workshop for new teachers, and elementary school Principal of School #23. She had a vital role in developing many workshops in the Rochester area and in New York State including an invitational conference on "The treatment of Minorities and Women in Instructional Materials" which was sponsored by the Educational Department and New York United Teacher's Association.
During the ten year Beacon Project, Mrs. Logan was a contributing author to the following Benefic Press books:
Afro-American Contributors to American Life, 1970 Hispanic American Contributors to American Life, 1973 American Indian American Contributors to American Life, 1975 American Women American Contributors to American Life, 1976 In addition, her article, "A Beacon for the Future" was published in Learning Today, Vol. 5, No.2 Library College Assoc. 1972.
She has effectively applied her administrative strengths and leadership skills on several advisory boards including the Urban Suburban Transfer Program, Finger Lakes Health System Agency, Charles Settlement House, Community Savings Bank, Rochester Mental Health Center, Monroe County Lilac Teen Program, YWCA of Rochester, Evaluation Team for United Way, Assistant Superintendent Sunday School Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and Board of Christian Education, Scholarship Committee Chair for 29 years, Building Fund Committee and Assistant Church Clerk.
Mrs. Logan has been instrumental in helping to enhance community life for other African Americans in Rochester by becoming a charter member and first president of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and The Links, Incorporated. She was also a charter member of AARP Greater Rochester Chapter and is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Mrs. Logan's dedication and enthusiastic service has not gone unnoticed as reflected by the honors she has received over the years. Among them are the Rochester City School District Board of Education Service Recognition; Urban League of Rochester Certificate of Distinguished Service; WXXI 21/TV/AM/FM special Award for volunteer Service; Distinguished Leadership Award for Outstanding Service to Children and the Community; International Who's Who in Sororities and Fraternities listing, 1984; Certificate of Recognition for service, Alpha Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society; Delta Nu Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc. renamed its Soror of the Year Award, "The Katherine H. Logan Soror of the Year Award"; and "in Honor of Katherine H. Logan" is inscribed on The visitor's wall of the Rundel Public Library, contributed by the Logan family.
Katherine Logan's motivation is to provide a springboard for youth and others to realize their goals and make viable contributions. The educational system is the avenue through which she has fulfilled her desire to help others
