Delores E. Coleman was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Buffalo in 1977 with her husband and childhood sweetheart, Stanley Coleman, also a native of Chicago. A graduate of Parker High School in Chicago, Delores continued her education in Buffalo completing several certificate and degree programs, including: Teaching Certification, Buffalo Research Institute on Education for Teaching, the University at Buffalo, 1995; M.A., American Studies/Black Feminists, University at Buffalo, 1992; B.A., American Studies/Women's Studies, University at Buffalo, 1986; National Seminars, Inc. Workshop, Powerful Business Writing Skills; and Careertrack, Management and Leadership Skills for Women.
Delores is a Social Studies teacher and member of the Learning Standards and Curriculum Department for the Buffalo Public Schools. Delores and Stan are co-owners of Appaloosa Video Productions, LTD. Since 1988, the couple has recorded the video histories of many community and church organizations.
Delores' community involvement is mirrored in the many organizations and groups that she actively participates in such as: Founding member, 50 Women with a Vision, a group of women committed to restoring Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo to a business and shopping district; Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Xi Epsilon Omega Chapter; Member, Pan Hellenic Council, Western New York; Former Member, Phi Lambda Theta-Alpha Nu Chapter; Educational Tutor, Women for Human Rights and Dignity, Inc.; Board of Directors, Alleyway Theater; Past President and member of the Board of Directors, Inner City Ballet; Advisory Board Member, United Negro College Fund; a past woman of the Year and Historian, American Business Women's Association, Frontier Chapter; Coalition of 100 Black Women, Buffalo Chapter; Nia Writer's Workshop, Langston Hughes Cultural Institute; and Fundraising Chairperson, Hot Ice Ski Club.
Delores and Stan are the proud parents of Stella and Angela, and grandparents of Bria, Aaliyah, Mya, and Dwight Jr. Delores also has two older sisters, Maudell Walton of Chicago, Illinois; Eurina Bundy of New York, New York; and a brother, Vermon Dright, Jr. of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Delores has been a member of Jordan Grove Baptist Church, Buffalo, since 1990.
