Beula McKay and her husband, Abraham (A.L.) were very progressive and respected entrepreneurs. A.L. McKay came to the state of Oklahoma in 1917. He established the McKay Funeral Home on April 26, 1926. The first location of the business was at Northeast 5th and Phillips Street. New zoning laws forced the McKays to relocate their business to 928 N.E. 4th Street in 1933.
Following her husband's death in June of 1946, Mrs. McKay assumed sole responsibility for the business. She brought about a legacy of her own by bringing in several partners and incorporating the business in 1957. Her signature colors for the limousine fleet of pink and black will always be remembered. The exterior of the current location still bears the color pink in her memory. Mrs. McKay partnered with Sammie T. Davis in 1969. The McKay-Davis Funeral Home thrived and a new location was built and opened in 1976. Mrs. McKay died on November 24, 1976, a short time after the open house for the new location. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.
