Wygenia Hailstock Miles

Born on 8-5-1940. She was born in New Berry, SC.

Born in Newberry, South Carolina, Wygenia (Genia) Hailstock Milesmoved to Buffalo in 1953 with her parents, the late Hattie Bell (Johnson) and Eugene Hailstock, five sisters and one brother. The family settled into the East side of Buffalo.

Mrs. Miles attended Buffalo Public Schools, The University at Buffalo, SUNY Empire State College, and Daemen College. She holds New York State Teacher Certification in Secondary Business Education, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management with a Minor in Economics, and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Studies. Genia has taught Business/Computers in the Buffalo Public School System since 1994. Other positions have included Deputy Director of the University at Buffalo/Bob Lanier Center for Educational, Physical and Cultural Development, and Director of the University at BuffaloInstitute for CBO Education and Training, and Administrative Associate with St. Augustine's Center, Inc.

Mrs. Miles is an educator whose goal is to help young people to grow toward becoming full participating members, prepared to become the leaders of our community. She believes that, "To whom much is given, much will be expected" Luke 12:48.

An active advocate for her community, Genia has held leadership positions in several professional and civic organizations, including Junior Achievement Western New York School Advisory Board; Vice President, The Niagara Falls Chapter of The Links, Incorporated; Secretary, Fund Raising Chair and By-Laws Chair Harriet Tubman 300's; Leadership Buffalo Class of 1992; President of the Buffalo Alumnae Chapterof Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an international public service organization; and Event Chairperson for the acclaimed St. Philip's Boys and Girls Choir.

Genia has also been an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, where she served as Warden, Treasurer, and Chair of the Rector Search Committee, Vice-President of the St. Philip's Community Center, Secretary and Member of the Executive Committee Episcopal Community Services.

Genia Miles is married to William A. Miles, Sr. They are the parents of five children, Michelle Lynn (Robert) Sessum, William A. Miles, Jr., Simone Y. (Anthony) Harmon, (deceased), Michael L. Miles, and Jason E. Miles, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
