Michelle Mitchell

Michelle Mitchell is the oldest of four children and the only girl of Michael and Marlene Mitchell.

Her younger siblings are Matthew Mitchell who works in the IT department for Urban Radio Station WBLS; Marvin Mitchell, a freelance PHP Designer; and Maurice Mitchell, the Lead Organizer at Long Island Progressive Coalition.

Michelle graduated from Private School. In twelfth grade she was privileged to attend Southern Normal School, a predominantly minority co-educational boarding school founded by James Dooley, Sr., located in Brewton, Alabama. The experience she had there opened her eyes to the historical importance of the civil rights era and the first hand experiences she obtained from her teachers and classmates parents of there struggles in the deep south.

After Graduation, Michelle obtained certification in Computer Systems Technology and has worked for companies such as The Ford Foundation, MI8, and Credit Suisse First Boston.

Michelle has worked as an officer in the Long Beach Branch NAACP back in 2003 and has memberships in, The New York Urban League Young Professionals, National Council of Negro Women, and The Order of Eastern Star. Michelle has also created an online support and empowerment group for the women of color called The Phenomenal Women.

While not working as a volunteer for the many charitable organizations she is a member of she enjoys spending time with her family or traveling.

Michelle Currently works for the Rockefeller Foundation in the Information Technology Department.
