Willie Lee Davis was born on April 26,1939 in Sumter, South Carolina. She is the only daughter of Willie Russell Davis and Jannie Juanha Coplin-Davis. Willie is the second eldest of five children. In 1950 Willie and her family moved to Buffalo, New York. The Buffalo community was vastly different from her southern beginnings. She soon adapted to the change and was enrolled into Buffalo public schools eventually graduating from Lafayette High School. Following high school Willie attended and graduated from the Millard Fillmore Hospital Surgical Technician Program and became a Surgical Technician at Millard Fillmore Hospital.
In 1960 Willie was joined in holy matrimony to John Joe McCullough and from this union came Lisa Denise, Terrance Christopher, and Donna Lynn. Shortly after starting her family, Willie decided to become a full time homemaker. Upon returning to the workforce Willie joined the Buffalo Board of Education as a Teacher's Aid and later moved to the position of Community Education Leader. After years of desiring to continue her education Willie decided to pursue her Bachelors of Science degree from the University at Buffalo in Human Services. This degree later enabled her to take the position of Coordinator of Services for Pregnant and Parenting Teens in the Buffalo Public School System. She retired from this position in 2003.
As a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion church for almost 50 years, Mrs. McCullough has been active and loyal to her church home. She currently serves as President - Usher Board, Chairperson - Life Members, Sunday School Teacher, Coordinator - Children's Usher Board, Member - Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society, and Member -the Board of Christian Education. Mrs. McCullough has held office and been a member in a number of church organizations but she is particularly known for her years of working with the youth and young adults and is fondly referred to as Ma McCullough by countless.
Over the years Willie has received numerous awards including: Professional of the Month Award (WBLK 93.7), Teacher Contribution of the Year (South Park High School) Camp Fire - Volunteer of the Year, Outstanding Christian Education Worker (W.N.Y. Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church), Outstanding Sunday School Superintendent (St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church), and The Commitment to God and Zion Award (St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church)
Last but not least, Mrs. McCullough is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where she has served tirelessly on a number of committees and more recently as President of the Buffalo, New York Alumnae Chapter (2005-2007).
It's hard to believe that Willie has time to take on any other roles, however she takes the role of Granny very seriously. She and her husband are the proud grandparents of Terrance Christopher McCullough, II, Maya Elyse McCulllough Alexander, Zaria Tami McCullough and Camryn Imani Alexander.
Throughout the years Willie Lee McCullough has worn many hats, but to those who know her best, she is best known as the daughter in whom God is well pleased!
