Roy U. Dixon was born April 27, 1918 in Buffalo, New York. His parents were Edward and Christina Dixon and Roy had three siblings, Ira, Genevieve and Dorothy. Roy was baptized as an infant in St. Philip's Episcopal Church and was a life-long and faithful member of the parish. He was a graduate of Fosdick Masten High School.
In 1940, Roy entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served faithfully until he was honorably discharged.
Roy operated one of the first Black Taxi Services in Buffalo. He became a salesman for Phoenix Brewery and later an independent distributor for Pepsi Cola. In 1960, Roy accepted the position of merchandising manager for Erie Liquor Company and held this position until his retirement in 1984. Because Roy enjoyed working, he accepted a position as security officer with ITS Security at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Roy had two sons, Herbert and Cary Dixon from a previous marriage to the late Lena Plummer, and one step-son, William Cole. He had two grandsons, Cary Dixon Jr. and William M. Cole and one great-grandson, Julian.
Roy was an avid golfer for more than 40 years. He was one of the original members of the Golden Tee golf Club.
