Marilyn J. Smith is the Former Treasurer of the City of Buffalo, a position she held from 1994 to 1998. Mrs. Smith was a staff member in the Office of then New York State Senator Anthony M. Masiello for over five years. In this position she managed constituent affairs and served as the liaison to community groups. She also held the position as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of P.U.S.H. for Excellence, Inc. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Medaille College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree
in Government Services from that institution in 1983. She received a Master of Science in Social Science from the University at Buffalo in 1989.
In her role as the First Lady of St. John Baptist Church, Mrs. Smith is active in many of the activities of the congregation. She serves on the Board of Directors of the St. John Christian Academy, is a member of the Smith-Child Life Foundation and heads up the Women's Ministry. Mrs. Smith is also a member of Xi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has received numerous awards, among them, the SUNY Graduate Minority Fellowship.
Mrs. Smith is married to the Reverend Dr. Bennett W. Smith, Sr.
