Lori Polin Jones is the youngest child of Betty and William Polin of Indianapolis, Indiana. Ms. Polin Jones was an Army brat who lived in four different states all by the age of five. After attending public schools in Indianapolis and graduating from Lawrence Central High School in 1982, Ms. Polin Jones attended Indiana University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 1986.
During college, Ms. Polin Jones became inspired by the NationÃ?¢ââ??¬ââ??¢s first African American Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall, and decided to attend law school after learning more about Justice Marshall and about successful civil rights and education legal challenges, such as the Little Rock Nine and Brown v. Bd. of Education. Ms. Polin Jones received her Juris Doctor degree in May 1989 from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was a Managing Editor of the Journal of Corporation Law. Ms. Polin Jones has been a member of the Indiana bar since 1990.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Polin Jones joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of the General Counsel in Washington, D.C., and began her career in Federal government service. Ms. Polin Jones has been a Senior Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel since 1997 and practices in the areas of Natural Resources and Government Contracts law. In her role as Senior Counsel, Ms. Polin Jones has assisted the Department of Justice in defense of lawsuits against the government for breach of contract, and was instrumental in successfully defending the government in lawsuits resulting in the payment of more than $12 million dollars owed the government.
Ms. Jones has had a distinguished career and has received numerous awards for achievement and merit, including a recent award from the Secretary of Agriculture in recognition of Ms. Polin JonesÃ?¢ââ??¬ââ??¢ valuable contribution and dedicated service to the Department of Agriculture during the 2007 and 2008 legislative process resulting in passage of the Farm Bill, a major piece of legislation effecting the Department.
Ms. Polin Jones resides in Maryland with her husband, David. Ms. Polin Jones is a devoted mother to her son, David William, a freshman in high school and a member of his junior varsity basketball team; and to her daughter, Camille, a budding writer, artist, and musician. Ms. Polin Jones is a member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Ft. Washington, Maryland, and has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., since 1985.
