Lexie M. Sanders is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She is the second child of eight children born to W.J. and Gertrude Freeman. Lexie is the wife of the late Kelab Sanders, Jr. and from their union they had six children: Gloria J. Dolson-Robertson, Joyce A., Jacqueline M., James E. Sanders, all of Niagara Falls; Janice D. Sanders of Baltimore, MD and Albert C. Sanders deceased. The couple also has 16 grand children and great grand children.
Lexie is a graduate of Parker High School of Birmingham, AL. She attended Niagara County Community College, Niagara University, New York Continuing Education Program and graduated from Lillian Dora Cosmetology School in Buffalo, New York. She retired from Niagara Falls Board of Education as Home School Partner after a service of 14 years.
Mrs. Sandersââ?¬â?¢ past and present community appointments have been as a member of Niagara Community Center Association, Girl Scouts of America Den Mother, Inter-Faith Housing Committee, Big Brother and Big sister Program, Alternative School Committee member, Niagara Falls School Community Partnership Advisory Board and 4H Club. She is the Worthy Matron of Sister Martha, Chapter #41 and Orders of Easter Star and a member of the Niagara Falls Board of Education Magnet School Committee.
She is a life long active member of Mt. Erie Baptist Church. Some of her active roles are Missionary Circle, member of Evangelist Choir, President of LaSalle Educational Club, President of Willing Workers Senior Group, Founding member and President of Mt. Erie Baptist Church Black History Annual Program. She is a Certified Day Care Provider, member and chairperson of Membership Committee of NAACP, recent member of Niagara Community Center Association of Niagara Falls, NY.
Lexie has received numerous civic awards for her leadership. The most recent is the Outstanding Leadership Award presented by St. John A.M.E. Church on March 14, 2008. Mrs. Sanders is a strong voice in the community for those who canââ?¬â?¢t speak for themselves. Her advocacy led her to organize a civic group called ââ?¬Å?Parents Who Careââ?¬. Mrs. Sanders is a committed individual who is strongly involved in the politics of her community.
In her spare time, she enjoys baking and Christian fellowship with those individuals who are confined to their homes. For years Mrs. Sanders has dedicated herself to helping her fellow man. Her motto is ââ?¬Å?It is so nice to be niceââ?¬.
