Keli-Koran Luchey has a PhD in Counselor Education with a concentration in School Counseling from the University at Buffalo. She acquired New York State certification in School Administration (SAS) and School District Administration (SDA) from Canisius College. She earned a MEd in College Counseling and Student Personnel Work and a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Women's Studies all from the University at Buffalo.
She is a certified New York State School Counselor and is currently employed as School Counselor at Niagara Falls High School. She serves as an educational consultant for the Mount Olive Development Corporation, PreventionFocus and the Office for University Preparatory Programs at the University at Buffalo. She was formerly employed as a Senior Admissions Advisor and Assistant Admissions Coordinator for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Buffalo. In addition to her work in Admissions, she also taught an Undergraduate Freshman Seminar course.
Prior to her position as a Senior Admissions Advisor, Dr. Luchey worked in various capacities for the Science and Technology Enrichment Program (STEP), the Liberty Partnership Program, the Upward Bound Program (all at UB) and the Buffalo Urban League.
She is vice-president of the Niagara-Orleans Counseling Association (NOCA), on the Board of Directors for the True Community Development Corporation, a member of the PreventionFocus Adult Advisory Board, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Buffalo Alumnae Chapter, Jack and Jill of American, Inc., Buffalo Chapter, the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE).
Dr. Luchey has received several awards for her contributions to the community including: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated (Beta Iota Chapter) Educator of the Year Award (1995), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Gamma Kappa Chapter) Appreciation Award (1998), WBLK's Professional of the Month Award (1998), Who's Who Among Teachers (2004-05; 2005-06; 2006-07), Senator Antoine Thompson's "Educator Award" for Women's History Month (2007), and the "Education Award" from Mayor Byron Brown (march 2007).
Keli-Koran was married to David L. Luchey and they are the proud parents of son David "DJ" James Luchey. She is a member of True Bethel Baptist Church.
For nearly twenty years, Dr. Luchey has assisted children and considers it an honor and privilege to work with our youth. It is her goal to instill in every child that she meets the belief that they are all "students of promise" rather than "students at-risk".
