Josetta Ryann Chatmon R.N., B.S.N.

Josetta R. Chatmon began her career working at the previously named, Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital, as a Graduate Practical Nurse shortly after graduating from the former, Trott Vocational High School, in August 1966 at the age of seventeen; A career that would span over more than five decades.


Josetta continued to work at Memorial until she married and left the country to join her military husband In London, England in 1969. In 1971 she returned to Niagara Falls and resumed her career, working at the "old" St Mary's Nursing Home and the Devaux Manor Nursing Home.


Josetta, always strived to be the best she could be in her field, and as to remain as current as possible in an ever so dynamic profession; She enrolled into Niagara County Community College in September of 1976 to pursue an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Nursing, graduating in 1979 as a Registered Nurse. After graduating, she enjoyed a brief hiatus from work and education to care for family.


In 1981,Josetta a began working as a Registered Nurse, at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, New York, where she worked as a medical surgical nurse, until February 1985 when, due to family obligations, she returned, once again, to Niagara Falls Memorial.


Upon hire, at the now, named, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Josetta initially worked medical surgical units, however in 1991 she transferred to the Intensive Care Unit,where she continued to work for the next twenty-three years. During this time, Josetta, once again, wanting to strive for more knowledge as well as to fulfill a lifelong goal of obtaining a baccalaureate degree in nursing, Josetta enrolled at Niagara University, part-time, in pursuit of that goal in the Spring of 1996. This decision proved to be challenging as it was, working full time and raising five children. However, she was determined to continue moving forward in her ever so evolving profession of choice. Also, wanting her children to know that; with determination, desire, hard work, and lots of prayers, the impossible becomes possible. Josetta graduated in 2001 with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing while maintaining a greater than 3.0 QPA.


Josetta continued to work at Memorial Hospital as well as working part-time at Niagara County Community College as a Clinical Instructor (2002-2008) after receiving her degree.

In 2010, Josetta having always functioned in the staff and charge nurse roles, decided to take her career one step further; one that would culminate her many years of practice, Nursing Management. she took a position as a Nursing Administrative Coordinator, (Nursing Supervisor) a position she retained, until her retirement from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in 2014.


Complete retirement was short lived however, as she returned part-time to work Niagara County Community College Registered Nursing Skills Laboratory until May 2018.


In 1988 Josetta was nominated by Niagara Falls Memorial to be included as a choice to receive the "Distinguished Nurse of the Year Award" offered by the New York State Nurses Association. In1998, she was awarded the Niagara Falls Memorial Hospitals "Outstanding Community Service Award" from the Niagara Falls Black Achievers for the commitment to Health and Caring as a nurse in the city of Niagara
Falls. In 2000 she received The Class "Community Service" Award in Nursing from Niagara University as well.


Since retiring, Josetta continues her commitment of service to humanity and health via community service. She is an active member of the Hope Baptist Church of Niagara Falls, New York, The National Black Nurses Association, Western New York Black Nurses Association, Zonta International Club of Niagara Falls and the NAACP.

Josetta is the proud mother of 5 adult children ( her five heartbeats as she affectionately referrers to them). Mark Scott and Jason (Cara) Scott, Eric, Mia and Joshua Crumpton, as well as 8 precious grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoys family time, reading, travel, attending church and cultural events and gardening.

Josetta, continues to reside in the city of her birth, Niagara Falls, New York, She states her favorite and guiding scripture to be: Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on to your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and he will guide your paths" Her favorite thought "Never give up on one important person, "Yourself"
