Dr. Glen Smith completed his medical training at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. He developed his specialization in Internal Medicine both in Calgary and at the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto, he also specialized in Endocrinology with a special interest in the management of Diabetes. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Experimental Medicine from McGill University and also a Ph.D. in Endocrinology.
Dr. Smith has spent several years in research and has taught in the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary. In addition to his M.D., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, he also holds doctorate degrees in Literature and Humanities.
He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. Smith practiced medicine in Toronto for 13 years, then joined Sheehan Memorial Hospital in Buffalo as a Staff Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine. There he served as Interim Medical Director, and then as Medical Director, Ambulatory Care Services for six years.
Throughout his career Dr. Smith has placed a high priority on community outreach. He was actively involved in community services in Toronto, where he served as weekly Health Columnist for the Globe Times Newspaper and as a second opinion physician for the Radio Talk Show. In Buffalo he has worked extensively with young people on AIDS awareness and prevention, and currently contributes 8-10 hours per week in education, health outreach, teaching and training to Buffaloââ?¬â?¢s underserved communities.
His professional memberships have included the National Medical Association ââ?¬â?? Western New York Chapter (Vice President); Endocrine Society; American Diabetes Association; American Association of Black Cardiologists; International Society for Hypertension in Blacks; American College of Physician Executives; American Society of Hypertension Specialists; Advisory Council of LEWAC Associates of WNY, Inc.; Board of Directors of the Doctors Lions Club of Toronto; and Metro Medi-Call, Inc. (Canadaââ?¬â?¢s first doctorsââ?¬â?¢ house call service in Toronto ââ?¬â?? Founder).
Dr. Smith is considered one of the leading authorities in the United States on Chronobiology, Chronotherapeutics and the Circadian Rhythm. He is an international lecturer and speaker on Hypertension, Diabetes, Arthritis, Chronobiology and Pain Management.
In March of 2003, Dr. Smith opened Wellness Medical Practice, PLLC, located at 135 Grant Street, Buffalo, New York, 14213. Dr. Smith is a primary care physician and endocrinologist participating with all insurances.
