Edward Scott Sr

He was born in Demopolis, Alabama. He later died on 5-19-1996.

Edward Nelson Scott, Sr. was born in Demopolis, Alabama and raised in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the son of Larry and Della Scott. He moved to Buffalo after graduation from LeMoyne-Owen College and after serving in Europe in World War II. Mr. Scott attended the University at Buffalo Law School for one year in the late 1940s.

During World War II, Mr. Scott rose to the rank of Sergeant Major and served for 18 months in the European theater of operations. He worked for over 25 years for the New York State Department of Labor in various professional positions. He served as an Industrial Investigator and as an Unemployment Insurance Hearing Officer. Mr. Scott was appointed as Manager of the New York State Employment Office in Lockport, New York from 1969 to 1973.

He was a member of the New Covenant United Church of Christ and served as a trustee for many years. In addition, he was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Buffalo Urban League, the NAACP and a board member of the Erie County Community Action Organization until illness forced him to limit his activities.

He was married to the former Anne Braithwaite, who predeceased him in 1979. In 1986, he married the former Madeline O. Easley. Mr. Scott has two sons, Edward N. Scott, Jr. and Judge Hugh Scott, a step-son, Nicholas Fortson and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Scott died on May 19, 1996
