Devorah is a native of Eastman, Georgia. She is the daughter of Lillie Anna Christmas Warren and the late William Christmas, and granddaughter of the late Lucas and Eva Christmas. Devorah is the niece of Arthur and Zipporah Thomas of Eastman.
She graduated, Salutatorian, from Peabody High School in 1962. Where she served as class president for four consecutive years.
After moving to Buffalo in 1962, Devorah worked as a surgical clerk for five years at the Deaconess Hospital. She received her BA Degree and Masters Degree and obtained a distinction of Cum Laude for both degrees when she graduated from State University College at Buffalo. Later in her career, she obtained an Advanced Certificate in School Administration.
Devorah worked for the Buffalo Board of Education for 28 years. She taught Special Education for 14 years and served on the District Committee of Special Education for five years. She was appointed Supervisor of Pupil Personnel Services where she served as a Hearing Officer for Formal and Informal Suspensions. During her tenure she also served as Acting Director of the Magnet School Program for two years.
The Xi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. of Amherst, New York selected Devorah to receive the 2006 Soror Of the year award for her outstanding contributions to Alpha Kappa Sorority and service to the Buffalo, New York Community. She has celebrated more than 29 years of service in the Sorority. Devorah was initiated into Gamma Phi Omega Chapter on May 13, 1977. She is a Charter Member of Xi Epsilon Omega Chapter (1981), and with over 25 years of service she has obtained the title of Silver Soror. Devorah served as chairperson and co-chairperson respectively of the first, second and third (1983-1985) Founders Day Committee. She was Chapter Historian for five years and is most proud of serving as chairperson when the chapter won, first place, for the Regional Beulah T. Whitby Scrapbook Award for Outstanding Chapter of 2004.
Her hobbies include traveling and she most recently traveled to Europe where she and her daughter visited the cities of London, Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome for three weeks. She enjoys snorkeling, raising tropical fish, designing small ponds, gardening, reading, working on scrapbooks, listening to jazz, oil painting, sewing, and researching Price family history.
Devorah is a member of St. John Baptist Church where she serves on the Board of Christian Education. Her other memberships include Buffalo Retired Teachers Association, Buffalo Retired Administrators Association, Life Member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, Inc. She serves as vice President and Historian of the Price Family Reunion Committee. Devorah also volunteers to send letters and collect donations in her neighborhood for the American Cancer Society.
She is married to Floyd L. Maclin, has one daughter Marissa Adriana, who is also a member of Xi Epsilon Omega Chapter and attends Stony Brook Medical School. Devorah is the proud caretaker of the family dog, a Bichon Frise, whose name is ââ?¬Å?Elmoââ?¬.
Devorah thinks she has rediscovered her Georgia Roots. Upon retiring, she spends part of the year at her home in Eastman, Georgia. She travels on weekends and has great fun socializing, visiting family, neighbors and old friends.
