AKA Sheena the VooDoo Queen Female International Professional Wrestler

Let me take you on a journey into a part of my life as an International Professional Wrestler. As a 33 year old divorced woman with three children; Cornelius age 15, Pamela age 3 and Kenneth age 2; and a candidate for a Master of Science Degree at the State University of New York College at Buffalo I wanted something more.

One day while reading the local news paper I came across an advertisement seeking women to train for professional wrestling. I thought for a moment. I could use this extra money as a wrestler for my children along with the added benefit of using this type of job as a fitness program.

I called the number listed in the advertisement. A gentleman answered the telephone. We spoke about his advertisement and his desire to train women for professional wrestling. After completing our conversation we setup a time to meet. I was curious. I never wrestled before and was excited because if this panned out this would be a new and interesting exercise program and career.

Our first meeting was at a lounge called the Salty Dog Saloon located on the South Side of Buffalo. I remember as I walked up the stairs and entered the Saloon how I felt. It was like I had stepped back in time, into a Saloon that was in the Wild Wild West that you would see on television. There was even a wrestling ring in the Saloon. As I looked at the wrestling ring it really sunk in that I was actually going to an interview to be a wrestler. My heart and mind were racing.

During this meeting about my new potential career as a wrestler it was brought to my attention that I needed to decide on a wrestling name and what I was going to wear when I was in the wrestling ring. First I had to decide on a wrestling name. After some brain storming it was decided that I should capitalize on my Black heritage, hence the name Sheena the VooDoo Queen from deep dark Africa was born.

Next I had to choose a wrestling outfit that would complement my wrestling name and help to create the impression that would be interesting to my new audience. After searching for what seemed like an eternity I came up with the perfect outfit to complement my wrestling name. A black and gold leopard print leotard with a gold earrings, gold neck collar, gold arm band, grass skirt, a 5 foot spear and black patent leather wrestling boots. I had my hair braided in long flowing braids, painted my face with white warrior lines and entered the wrestling ring with a box of VooDoo dust to throw on my opponent.

As a professional wrestler I not only entertained the audiences while in the wrestling ring across the United States and Canada, there were also times when I had the privilege to be participate in various other activities such as a fund-raiser for handicapped children at a restaurant called "Pastels" in Brooklyn, New York sponsored by Community Mayors of New York State and a Fabulous International Wrestling Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Kota Baru, Malaysia, taking part in the Asia Pacific Wrestling Championship.

I have also had the privilege of giving various wrestling interviews on International and national television, radio, newspapers and magazines. My life as the only Black lady International Professional Wrestler from Buffalo, New York was a wonderful experience.
