My name is Candace Desta. I am a senior at Nichols School. I have always had a passion for Science and Math. For three years, I have participated in the UB Biomedical STEP Program. I discovered my love for Biology at Medical STEP.
I have participated in various extracurricular activities and community service at Nichols. One of my favorites would have to be SUMA, which is a club for diversity and multicultural awareness. SUMA helps raise awareness and solve issues at my high school community, dealing with Ethnicity, Sexuality, Handicaps, and Religion. I am also a Dancer/Choreographer. I currently take Ballet and Modern classes 4 to 5 days a week. In my free time, I enjoy doing Yoga, Drawing and also Painting. Joining the UB Biomedical STEP Program/Buffalo Prep Science Bowl Team was truly exciting. I never knew that there was something out there like this for people who loved Science and Math as much as I do. Teams are competing against each other, learning team work and leadership skills. My team won first Place in the Rochester Regional Science Bowl competition, and now have the honor in May to attend US Department of Energy National Science Bowl in Washington D.C. The Science Bowl was such a fun and personally rewarding experience for me, and IÃ?¢ââ??¬ââ??¢m truly happy to be a part of it.
