Barbara Miller Williams

Barbara Miller-Williams was appointed interim Ellicott District Councilmember by the local Democratic Party Committee members in January 1995. She served as Ellicott District Councilmember for three terms. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Williams served as a Police Officer with the Buffalo Police Department where she was assigned as a D.A.R.E. Officer, Warrant Officer, Police Community Liaison Officer, and Patrol Officer. As a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army Reserve, Ms. Williams is assigned to the 98th Division Second Brigade.

Ms. Williams earned a Secretarial Science Associates Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Office Administration/Criminal Justice. She is a 1998 Buffalo State College graduate with a Masters' Degree in Student Personnel Administration. She is a graduate of Leadership Buffalo '95 and Leadership Buffalo Graduate Program '99. She continues to serve her community as a District Councilmember and is active in the religious and civic communities. She is the parent of two adult daughters and recently became a first time "grandmother."

She has been noted for her leadership and community achievement and is the recipient of numerous Service Awards. She received the Black Achievers in Industry Award, Women for Effective Change Golden Flame Award, Los Tainos Ana Cotton Award, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Service Award, 93.7 WBLK Professional of the Month Award, Langston Hughes Cultural Institute Commemorative Award, F. Cecil Brown Democratic Club Award, True Bethel Invisible Soldier Award and the Afro-American Police Leadership Award.

She served on various community boards including the Community Action Organization of Erie County, Inc. and the Buffalo State College Alumni Association. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Phi Omega Chapter, Grassroots, Inc., Western New York Hispanics and Friends Civic Association, NAACP, 50 Women with a Vision, Buffalo Urban League, Black Leadership Forum and the New York State Crime Prevention Coalition. She further serves as an Erie County Democratic Committee Member.
