Angela Molette was born December 9, 1958 to Robert and Barbara Finley in Enid, Oklahoma. She is the second of five children. She was raised in Southern California.
Angela met, through her best friend Pamela Molette, and married Edgar ââ?¬Å?Alââ?¬ Molette on October 15, 1977. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.
Angela started working in nursing homes and hospitals in California and Oklahoma, at an early age and in 1986 she graduated from Lynwood Vocational Nursing School as a Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN). She began her nursing career at Wilshire Nursing and Development Center in Templeton, California. In November of 1988, Angela began working as a Staff Nurse at the Twin Cities Convalescent Center in Templeton, California and within a short period of time was promoted to Charge Nurse of the Medicare Unit at the Twin Cities Facility. In 1993, Angela was selected as Nurse of the Year at Twin Cities Convalescent Center and became a Candidate for the Central Coast Nursing Cooperative Council (CCNC) Nurse of the Year.
Beginning in 1991, Angela functioned as Nursing Supervisor/In-service Director at the family owned Residential Care Facility- Shadow Oaks in Paso Robles, California, while simultaneously working in multiple facilities on the Central Coast of California. In 1994, Angela was promoted to Quality Assurance Nurse Coordinator/Infection Control Nurse at Twin Cities Convalescent Center, while concurrently working as Director of Staff Development at Wilshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Templeton, California and at Wilshireââ?¬â?¢s Sea Shell Facility in Morro Bay, California. During the same period she was also acting as Staff Development Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee. She was also a member of the Central Coast Infection Control Nurses Council.
In February of 1996, Angela obtained from the State of California Department of Health Services Licensing and Certification Nursing Assistant Certification Section, Statewide approval for Director of Staff Development Instructor (Teaching Credential). In 2001 Angela and husband Al relocated to Enid, Oklahoma, where they established (along with her parents) the Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum. Angela serves as Curator and her mother, Barbara Finley is the Executive Director.
Angela is an Ethnic Indian Advocate, as well as Representative and Spokesperson for Black Indians United Legal Defense and Education Fund of Enid, Oklahoma. She has been a featured speaker across the United States on numerous Radio and College Panel Discussions on Black Ethnic Indian Issues. Angelaââ?¬â?¢s advocacy work has allowed her to serve in the past as Charter Member, Bylaws Writer and Board Member of Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes, Association of Oklahoma and Freedmen Descendants of the 5 Civilized Tribes Incorporated. She serves as a Tribal Development Consultant to 6 Ethnic Indian Tribal Nations and established an affiliation with the Washington based Harvest Institute Freedmen Federation in efforts to preserve Black Indian Treaty Rights. Angela is also President of the local chapter of the Enid NAACP and hosts Tuscaloosa Ohoyoââ?¬â?¢s Red Feather Showcase on Black Soul Power Radio (an International Internet/Satellite Radio Show).
Angela has served as the NAACP Representative to the City of Enidââ?¬â?¢s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, where she developed the Cityââ?¬â?¢s Diversity Award Bylaws. Additionally, she has been a member of the Board of the Garfield County Chautauqua Commission. Angelaââ?¬â?¢s Museum work and Ethnic Indian Advocacy has combined wonderfully to provide the stimulus to introduce the only Annual Ethnic Indian Pow Wow in the State of Oklahoma. Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museumââ?¬â?¢s Annual Pow Wow is held on the grounds of the Museum. The event, in combination with revitalization efforts, seeks to promote tourism in a formerly blighted area of the City of Enid.
