Andrew Boyd

Andrew Boyd was born in Attalla, Alabama. He came to Buffalo with his family in 1945 and graduated from Bennett High School. He served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War and received two bronze stars.
Mr. Boyd was one of Buffalo's first African American firefighters. He joined the department in 1960 and retired in 1991. He was awarded the Conner's and Butler awards for heroism. He also assisted in the recruitment of minority firefighters. He was active as a churchman, as a deacon at the Refuge Temple of Christ. Mr. Boyd and his wife were long time foster parents.
Mr. Boyd was 60 years old at the time of his death. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY.
