Our Hats Are Off to You, Beverly © July 19, 2004
by Sharon R. Amos
Standing tall
Speaking with the people's voice
Envisioning a
community, a city, a place
For love, peace and harmony
Some tried to deny
you a seat
Not on a bus like Rosa Parks
But in a chamber
Yet when the votes
were tallied
You gained the title
Councilwoman-at-large
A small task for a
woman
Of your proportions
Pushing a broom or
carrying a sign
Nothing could hinder your made up mind
One of 50 Women With
A Vision
You set your course
And followed it through
Our hats are off to you.
