Joanne Sadler

Dr. Joanne T. Sadler is a native of Buffalo, New York where she attended Martin Luther Christian School and Lafayette High School. She attended Virginia Union University for two years before returning to Buffalo where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education Administration from the University at Buffalo. Dr. Sadler was a Supervisor of Curriculum for the Buffalo Public Schools where she supervised the selection of textbooks and curriculum development.
For more than sixteen years, she directed the African and African American Curriculum Infusion Program. This is a program which was designed to encourage the teaching of African and African American content in all subject areas and grade levels. In her tenure as supervisor, Dr. Sadler developed and conducted numerous professional development/teaching sessions with many teachers in the Buffalo Schools. She formed a group of teachers to assist her in these activities so that the program could be expanded.
Dr. Sadler has presented seminars at Buffalo State College, the University at Buffalo, and Canisius College and has presented lectures at both state and local educational conferences and for parent and community groups in the Buffalo area. She has also been a guest on various radio programs. She retired from the Buffalo Schools in June 2002. She is a former adjunct professor at Niagara County Community College where she taught African American History. She currently teaches at Daemen College and volunteers with the Program Committee for the Northeast YMCA.
Dr. Sadler is the author of an African American history book entitled, Here and There, Then and Now: A History of Africans in America. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Phi Omega Chapter. Dr. Sadler is also the mother of two children and grandmother of one child.
