Dr. James A. Williams was named Superintendent of Buffalo Public Schools in July of 2005. Dr. Williams is a highly distinguished, respected, and outstanding educator. He received his M.A. in counseling psychology from the University of the District of Columbia and his Ed.D. in administration and curriculum from George Washington University.
Dr. Williams has held various administrative positions in the Washington, DC public school system. He later joined the Dayton Public Schools in Ohio as the Assistant Superintendent for Intermediate/Secondary instruction, and subsequently as Deputy Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools. He also worked for Montgomery County Public Schools as deputy superintendent until he became the Chief Academic Officer with Community Education Partners (CEP), a company that works with public schools to help low-performing children succeed within their school systems.
Dr. Williams has won numerous awards and honors including: The Richard R. Green Award, Urban Educator of the Year, awarded by the Council of the Great City Schools; Presidential Citation, Distinguished alumni award, National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education; Danforth Fellow; Peter F. Drucker Foundation, Frances Hesselbein Community Innovation Fellow; and Omega Psi Phi, and twice named Citizen of the Year. Dr. Williams is known for his work in curriculum and instruction, and his contributions include over 100presentations and publications.
