Henry Harrison Lewis, Jr. was the son of Henry Harrison Lewis, Sr. and Susie Binga Lewis. The younger Lewis was a native of Buffalo. Lewis attended the University at Buffalo where he earned a degree in the College of Arts & Sciences, the college's first class, before transferring to the Medical School. He graduated from the Medical School in 1918, one of the few Blacks to earn a medical degree at that time.

Dr. Lewis was required to register for the draft in World War I as were all young men his age but he was never called to active duty. He was honorably discharged on March 13, 1919.

Dr. Lewis' office was located at 564 Michigan Avenue. He was married to the former Florence M. Rogers. He is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York.
