Grace Williams was born and raised in Rock Hill South, Carolina to Mary and William Harden. Born on February 26, 1916, she is the youngest of nine siblings.

After graduating from high school in South Carolina, she visited Buffalo and fell in love with the City. She and her husband, James A. Williams, moved to Buffalo shortly after their marriage in 1941 and united with the St. Luke AME Zion Church. She has served on St. Luke's Usher Board, Home Mission Auxiliary, and as a Class Leader.

Grace is a member of the Bison Assembly #49 Order of the Golden Circle, Prince Hall Affiliate. She joined the Naomi Chapter No. 10 in 1988 where she is still an active member. She proudly held the office of Loyal Lady Ruler from 1995 to 1996.

She joined the Mary B. Talbert Civic and Cultural Club in the early 1980s. She was the Club's fourth President from 1984 to 1986 and has also served in the office of Treasurer. Grace is the poet laureate for the Mary B. Talbert Club. Her poem, "A Message to Members" appears in the Club's handbook.

A retired registered nurse, Grace has been the Secretary of her apartment building's Tenants Association for the past nine years. Her hobbies include ceramics, crocheting, knitting, and collecting antiques.
