Michael L. Green was born in Nolensville, Tennessee to the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Williams (Patricia) and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Green (Steve). He is an associate minister of the Greater Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Nashville where Elder Robert W. Howse, Sr. is the pastor.

On May 11, 2013 Minister Michael Green became the first African American man to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Middle Tennessee State University Master of Social Work Program is in collaboration with Tennessee State University and Austin Peay State University both of which are located in Middle Tennessee.

Michael is the founder of the Inner-City Cotillion Program entitled The Lydia Society, which provides opportunities for children regardless of socio-economic status to have the experience, and educational advantages that a cotillion brings.

Michael is a 1996 Alumni of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (BSW, Social Work), a 2002 Alumni of Cumberland University (Master's: Public Service Management). He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and a former officer of the Nashville Chapter of The National Association of Black Social Workers.
