Ansel J. Cureton, Sr.

Ansel J. Cureton, Sr was one of the first African American streetcar operators in Buffalo. He was a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He moved to Buffalo in the late 1930s. He worked as a streetcar operator for the old International Railway Company, owner of the cityââ?¬â?¢s trolley system until he was drafted into the Navy in1941. After his service in World War II he returned to Buffalo and to his job at the International Railway Company. He also opened a radio and TV repair shop in his Florida Street. home. Mr. Cureton was 78 years old at the time of his death on January 20, 1995. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY.
