Aloma D. Johnson is a graduate of Benedict College in Columbia South Carolina. She holds a Masters degree in Physical Education from the University of Indiana, a Masters degree in Counseling from SUNY at Buffalo and Certification in Administration from SUNY College at Buffalo.

Her vocational history includes serving as a Physical Education Teacher, Guidance Counselor for over 25 years, Assistant Principal and Acting Director of Magnet Schools for the City of Buffalo.

Aloma epitomizes the term ââ?¬Å?role modelââ?¬. She has been a constant source of mentoring and motivation for many students within the WNY community. Aloma is endowed with the ability to recognize potential in the people that she encounters; she has adopted a personal philosophy that one should continue to grow through constant enhancement of their skills and expertise. She demonstrates an unselfish sense of responsibility to promoting the development of young people. Aloma encourages them to look beyond their current status and focus on setting goals and reaching those goals. She received the Buffalo Alliance for Education ââ?¬Å?Pathfinders Awardââ?¬ for her dedication to Youth.

She has worked on many community service activities, including the YWCA of WNY Stop the Violence Conference; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Gamma Phi Omega Chapter ââ?¬â?? ââ?¬Å?AKA On Trackââ?¬ Reading Academy; Debutante Program; Senior Sweetheart Program; Scholarship Committee; and the Minority Athletes Recognition Event. Aloma was also honored by the YWCA of WNY as a nominee for their Leadership Award in the area of community service. Aloma is truly one of the ââ?¬Å?talented tenthââ?¬ always striving to serve her community to the best of her ability.

Aloma is a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church. Her service activities include serving as a member of the Christian Education Outreach Ministry and more recently on the Board of St. John Christian Academy.

She is a ââ?¬Å?Silver Starââ?¬ and has ââ?¬Å?Lifeââ?¬ membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she has been a member for over 42 years. Aloma is active in the local Gamma Phi Omega Chapter where she was the third recipient of the prestigious ââ?¬Å?Ouida Clapp Awardââ?¬ for her continual display of outstanding sisterhood, support and service to others and the community at large. Aloma has been an active member of the Buffalo Chapter of the Links Inc. since 1995 and is active in many community outreach efforts with this organization. Her favorite pastime activities includes golfing, helping others to realize their full potential and lending her skills/talents to making the WNY area a better place to live. Her greatest joy comes from spending time with her grandson ââ?¬Å?King Nigelââ?¬, who occupies most of her spare time.
She is married to John A. Johnson, New York State Commissioner of Children and Family Services; her children are Ivy Johnson and Ingrid Johnson-Jacobs. She is the only daughter of Jack and Ellen ââ?¬Å?Sugarââ?¬ Crumpton. Aloma credits her mother with her innate ability and passion for helping others. Aloma has as her life philosophy ââ?¬Å?Through God All things Are Possibleââ?¬.
